Social go

I have found a great new website called SocialGo which is another free social networking site. Now that NING has become a fee paying membership site I can no longer use it. This new site is just as good, if not better. It allows you to add blog posts, upload video and images

Happy Blogging

Multiple Intelligence

This is a quick 5 minute quiz your students can do in class to identify what type of learner they are. This is a good start to a new unit/ topic as students can really identify how they learn best.
Students can then complete assessment tasks/ class work in this format.

Brimingham Grid for Learning Student Quiz

After attending a TAS network meeting I established a great way to use the results of this quiz to encourage and promote learning from ALL students.

At the start of each unit, allow students to work in Ability Groups for 5 weeks. This enables the students to work together to develop core knowledge and get an understanding of the key concepts of the unit. The next 5 weeks students are to break out into their Learning Style groups. Together they can explore the rest of the unit and assessment task using their learning style.

Its hard to explain in words but if you would like more information please see me. It makes better sense face to face.

NING.com

ning.com is a great site to create online blog pages for your classes. It allows students to discuss topics in class, ask questions and evaluate their work. My year 10 food technology students are using the NING to evaluate their food technology practical lessons, upload photos and video of their dishes.

Its a fun and interesting way of evaluating their work, especially for students with different learning abilities. I have students on life skills completing the work and are actively engaged in the task!

My students complete a series of questions called a  RECIPE REVIEW, these are a series of questions which require them to evaluate and reflect on their practical cooking lesson.

Jeopardylabs.com

This free website is a great tool to create a quick and effective educational game. It only took me 10 minutes to add the questions and answers and then upload it to my classes.

The great thing about the jeopardy game is that the question structure is backwards, they are given the answer and must think of the question, therefore teaching students to use their higher order thinking caps.

Now that my students are familiar with the game I will leave them in charge of creating the questions and adding hem to the game. All I will then have to do is upload the game and lead the game show!
